Shanik Hughes is a Mexican-American singer-songwriter, actress, and creative based in Austin, Texas. With more than three decades of experience in the entertainment industry, her career spans television, film, theater, and music across Mexico, Los Angeles, Miami, and New York.
A graduate of Televisa’s Centro de Educación Artística (CEA), TVI Studios in Los Angeles, and Broadway Dance Center in New York, Actors Workshop in Miami. Shanik began performing at the age of three in national commercials and later appeared in international productions including Rosario (Univisión), Corazón Valiente (Telemundo/NBC), Libre Para Amarte (Televisa), and Todos Queremos a Alguien (Pantelion Films).
Now proudly based in Austin, Shanik continues to expand her artistry as part of the city’s vibrant cultural landscape. In 2024, she was awarded support from the City of Austin’s Live Music Fund, which has enabled her to perform live at local venues and festivals, produce new music and videos, and participate in aN international press tour highlighting her music and Austin’s creative diversity.
Deeply rooted in her Mexican/ American heritage and committed to community building, Shanik is developing partnerships to create a community-based music and arts festival that unites local musicians, artisans, and wellness practitioners. Her vision is to use art as a bridge for healing, inclusion, and cultural celebration—honoring Austin’s identity as the Live Music Capital of the World while amplifying its multicultural voices.
In addition to her artistic career, Shanik teaches piano and voice in the Austin area, sharing her passion and experience with the next generation of young performers. Beyond the stage, Shanik is a proud mother and lifelong storyteller. Her daughter, Julie, is her biggest inspiration and the reason she continues to create spaces where art and community meet. Through her bilingual podcast, Shine your Light, Shanik shares conversations and reflections on creativity, purpose, and personal growth. Her journey as both an artist and a mother is a reminder that resilience and authenticity can turn life’s challenges into meaningful art.
